The 2006 and 2010 World Cup stars have expressed their views on removing the 47-year-old from the post of national team head coach.
Former Ghana defender John Pentsell believes the Football Association’s dismissal of CK Akonnor as head coach of the Black Stars is a step in the wrong direction.
Econor was fired on Monday, leaving the Black Stars to win only 40 percent of the matches they played.
Last week’s 1-0 loss to South Africa in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
“It’s not a good feeling, when it’s with a coach, it’s like it’s with all of us,” Pentsell said. City FM.
“However, this is the nature of a coach’s job. Sometimes you get a good start, other times you get a bad start.
“I would say it’s unfortunate, it’s not the right time, he should have been given time to work on the team.
“When you look at his stats and his work, you can tell he came at the wrong time, and he didn’t get a chance to camp enough for the players before most of the games. It’s very disappointing to me. ۔ “
Former Ghanaian and Adeni star Mohammed Gargo has suggested that Ekunor’s poor performance was due to interference in his job.
“I don’t know if he was being controlled or manipulated. I can’t say he was acting on his own, but I knew he was being affected. Said Former midfielder
Econor’s reign as Ghana’s boss began last October with a 3-0 defeat to Mali in an international friendly, but ended in a 5-1 victory over World Cup host Qatar three days later.
