The record of the social media site Facebook is not good in terms of keeping the data of the users safe and once again the data of millions of users has been leaked.
The motherboard report said that the phone numbers of more than 500 million Facebook users are being sold online with the help of a telegram bot.
Security researcher Alon Gall has given information about this data leak from his Twitter account and has informed about the danger associated with it.
Anyone could access the phone number
Gal says that the user using the Telegram bot is taking advantage of a reported flaw in the year 2020.
Due to this drawback, phone numbers linked to Facebook accounts of users of different countries could be traced, though this has now been fixed.
It is possible that due to this flaw, a database of users’ accounts and phone numbers associated with them has been created, which Telegram bot is now selling.
Number of millions of Indian users included
The data being sold by Telegram bot is for the year 2019, but it does not matter much because most users do not change their phone numbers every year.
In such a situation, the phone numbers sold by the bot can be easily misused.
Security researcher claims that phone numbers of users from more than 100 countries are included in the leaked database.
Leaks also include phone numbers of 61,62,450 Indian users.
It is possible to access Facebook account by number
According to the motherboard , if someone has a Facebook user’s phone number, then his account can be easily accessed.
However, the telegram bot will have to be paid in exchange for the information.
The user making the Telegram bot is asking for $ 20 (about Rs 1,460) in exchange for the Facebook ID.
Apart from this, if you want to buy the data of many users simultaneously, then 10,000 credits can be purchased for $ 5,000 (about Rs. 3,65,160).
Big threat to users privacy
Researcher Gal has considered it a big threat in terms of privacy of users.
He said that the first time this matter came to light, it did not get much attention and today such a large database has been leaked.
Researcher told the motherboard that with the help of so many leaked numbers, an attacker can smish and call fraud and Facebook should inform the users about this leak.
Such cases came before
This is not the first time that the phone numbers of such a large number of Facebook users have been leaked online.
Facebook claims to keep users’ data safe, of course, but reports related to data leaks keep coming up again and again.
In 2019 also, 41.9 million Facebook users’ phone numbers were found on an unsecured server and the company later fixed it as a mistake.
