Kate Garaway has given an update on her husband Derek Draper after ‘many tests’.
The TV presenter returned to the UK on Wednesday morning, almost a week after he won the National Television Award for his documentary on Derek’s recovery.
Derek, a former political adviser, spent more than a year in hospital when the corona virus “wreaked havoc” on his body.
He suffered serious complications, including inflammation of the brain and damage to his lungs, heart, kidneys and liver.
Derek, 54, returned to the family home in April where he now needs 24-hour care.
But during Wednesday. GMBKate, 54, gave viewers a positive update on her husband’s condition, saying she “understands everything.”
“Her eyes lit up,” he said. “We are very clear now that he really understands everything, and understands everything I tell him.
“He still can’t answer or talk, and Derek is testing a lot of things. We went to the hospital a few weeks ago, (which was the first time he saw doctors outside the house.) ۔ ”
He then explained what was included in the test after his long battle with the virus.
Kate said, “(They) told him to hold his breath and let out a sigh. He asked everything they asked him.”
“Just reacting to things and reacting to children, his answers are appropriate. It really feels like he’s reacting,” he added.
Kate Once again, everyone thanked him for his support, not only for him and Derek, but also for the couple’s two children, 15-year-old Darcy and 12-year-old Billy.
He also revealed that it is like living through the reality of the effects of the corona virus as well as reporting epidemics.
“I think it reflects the duality of living with it and reporting on it,” he said.
“I think coming here and your cooperation has been amazing. I think it has been very helpful to talk to politicians (personalities) and people affected in different ways.
“It doesn’t have to be an asset I want.”
During last week’s NTA, the audience of small screen celebrities stood up to applaud a clear emotional cat when he was declared the winner of the realistic gang.
Kate ended her speech with a dedication to her husband.
“Most of all, Derek, who should be here to tell your story. Derek, you’ll have a chance. Believe me.”
“Hope is real. Thank you very much.”
