A lorry has collided with the M66, causing long-term injuries.
The HGV hit the Hill Lane Bridge on the hill M66 Near the junction this afternoon.
Three of the four lanes to the north have been closed and the vehicle has been recovered.
As a result of the lane closure, the collision has caused about four miles of tailback.
Drivers have been warned to delay up to 40 minutes.
A spokesman for Highways England said: “Currently three of the four lanes have been closed after a lorry hit the Hill Lane Bridge.
“Restoration work is currently underway. It’s about 3.8 miles congested, and the journey is about 41 minutes late.”
