The ruling Spanish champions have tied the Argentine coach and his backing staff with expansion
Diego Simeone has signed a new contract with Atletico Madrid.
The Argentine coach is now linked with the Spanish champions until 2024.
In addition to Simon, his coaching staff Oscar Ortega, Pablo Versillon, Nelson Vavas and Hernan Bonovini have also been signed on three-year contracts.
How has Eletico performed under Simon?
The former Atletico coach took over in 2011.
He has led the club to eight trophies, more than any coach in Rojiblancos history.
During his in-charge spell, Atletico has won La Liga, the Europa League and the UEFA Super Cup twice, as well as a Copa del Rey and a Supercopa de Espaa.
He has also reached the Champions League final on two occasions.
What’s next for Atletico?
Atletico are looking to defend their La Liga title in the 2021-22 campaign.
The Capital Club clinched the title with a 2-1 win over Real Valladolid on the final day of last season, ending the campaign with a two-point victory over local rivals Real Madrid.
Atletico started the new season with a round game against Celta Vigo on August 15. He will then welcome Elche to the Wanda Metropolitan in the first home game of the season.
