The former Bafana Bafana International thinks that the Bikiniers underestimate the so-called small teams.
Orlando Pirates legend Edward Motale has solved the problems of the local giants before the clash with the Souls FC in the Soviet Derby Encounter on Saturday.
The two teams are set to clash in a PSL match at the Orlando Stadium, with the Pirates recording two draws and one defeat this season, following last month’s MTN 8 quarter-final against the Souls.
Motale thinks the Buckeyes underestimate the beautiful birds, who are unbeaten in their last five competitive matches against the Bucks.
“I would not say that they are fighting against them. What I saw, especially their game on MTN8, was that the pirates weakened their swallows. [feeling] That they have a new team, they have young people. Sweeten.
“When you entered the field you could see their body language. They thought it would be a walkover and they were shocked. Once you score first, the swallows are a team, they are good at coming back. ۔
“They [Swallows] “We played 20 draws last season, most of them with losses,” the retired defender explained.
“I would say that underestimating them has been the downfall of the pirates, but I think they have learned their lesson now and with difficulty. I think it will be a different ball game this Saturday.
The two Suite teams met twice in the league last season and both matches ended in a 1-1 draw at Orlando Stadium and Dobsonville Stadium.
Motale thinks the Pirates’ interim coaches Mandela Nkazi and Fidlo Davids will be under pressure when the team faces beautiful birds as they have not won a match since Joseph Zen Bauer left last month.
“I would say they are under pressure because they haven’t won a match yet, but let’s give them time. Perhaps their first win will boost their confidence.
“I’m sure the results will come soon. This mentality is there every time they play small teams, they value them. That’s what is killing them.”
The last time the Pirates scored was in March 2014 against Tulu Segola, who led the Buckeyes to a 1-0 victory over Beautiful Birds in a PSL match at Orlando Stadium.
