Suicide Squad When it lands on August 5 (July 30 in the UK), it is ready to take in many directions.
Not only is Warner Bruce’s upcoming superhero skyscraper counting for the Joker’s highest-grossing R-rated movie crown, but it looks like it will take a pop in this header, safe place where the superhero genre last Settled in a few years.
This is according to director James Gunn, who recently told SFX Magazine (via) Total movieThat superhero movies were “mostly boring” in those days, and they needed something unique to keep them out of the comic book-led production volume that audiences have become accustomed to.
As part of the Suicide Squad’s press tour, Gunn was asked to share his thoughts on the growing superhero genre, and the author-director did not back down in his response (however in an amusing way). ۔
“They’re mostly boring me right now!” The gun mocked. “I loved them in the beginning and people are still trying to do different things [with them]So, this is not a 100% rule, but many of them are boring. So I think it’s about bringing in other elements from different types. “
Analysis: What can be done with James Gunn superhero movies?
Gunn’s comments may lead fans to believe that he will step back from future superhero movies. However, even if it seems so on the surface, don’t expect the guns to deviate completely from the style that has brought it into the mainstream.
One is that there are three more superhero projects in Gun after the Suicide Squad. Slight director is currently working on a pacemaker spin-off series for HBO Max, which will see John Cena as a watchman in the days before the suicide.
Gunn has also teamed up with Disney Plus for the third film in the Galaxy Holiday Special’s Guardians, as well as Marvel Studios’ Guardians Movie Trilogy.
Add to that the fact that Gunn’s previous two projects, Super and Brightburn, also have a connection to the superhero genre, and it’s clear that he has a lot to do with this class of films.
Gunn is believed to have made the Guardian 3 of the Galaxy 3 after other superhero movies and TV shows. Given that Guns can bring these “other elements of a different nature” into more superhero (or superheroine) projects they sign, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t have another DCEU movie like Brightburn or Don’t expect to build real estate.
Sure, this speculation is from us, but we would be very surprised if Gunn left the genre. Hopefully, we’ll see more superhero movies about Gun Helm in the future, provided they fit.
Suicide Squad will launch simultaneously in US cinemas and HBO Max (with an ad-free subscription) on August 5. The film is set to hit theaters in the UK on July 30.
