Highways England closed part of M56, about eight miles south of Manchester City Center, on Monday night, damaging barriers to central reservations.
Following an accident on the east side of the motorway near Junction 3A for Whitenshaw, one lane was closed to traffic while repairs were made along the way.
A spokesman for Highways England said: “One lane has been closed to allow us to repair part of the barrier that was damaged this evening after the collision.”
This meant the closure of the fast lane while emergency repairs were carried out. There appear to be no major traffic jams in the area and repairs are expected to be completed before the rush hour on Tuesday morning.
