A section of a main road in Chadle was closed after a car overturned on the roof during the crash.
A560, Stockport Road, was closed in both directions at the junction with New Hee Road last night when a collision overturned, throwing fuel on the carriageway.
Emergency services arrived at the scene, and firefighters were seen working on the vehicle when it started emitting smoke.
Smoke can be seen rising from under the car, flames engulfing the front end of the car.
Firefighters were able to put out the blaze in 20 minutes.
A spokesman for the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “After 6pm on Monday 2 August, firefighters were notified of a road traffic collision involving a car on Stockport Road, Chadle.
Two fire engines from Stockport and Chadell fire stations and a technical rescue unit from Lee rushed to the scene.
Firefighters wearing breathing equipment used a hose rail to put out the blaze and help keep the area safe.
“GMFRS staff were present for about 20 minutes.”
Eyewitnesses saw the armed police at the scene and reported that paramedics were kept away from the scene while other emergency services secured the area.
It was not immediately clear if anyone was injured or arrested in the crash.
