The manager discussed his decisions, while Harry McGuire called for more discipline.
Ole Gunnar Solskjیرr explained his decision to exclude Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo from Tuesday’s game after their shock 2-1 defeat to Manchester United.
With Man Utd scoring one goal and one man down, Solskjیرr replaced the two Portuguese stars with Nimanja Matic and Jesse Langard.
It was Langard who teased Jordan Pefuk for the winner in the final moments of the game, explaining Solskir’s decision to take down the two stars.
What did Solesker say?
The game lasted 70 minutes, Solskjیرr said. “They are running a lot both Saturday and today.
“Astroturf took over. We wanted Nemanja’s experience and Jesse’s legs.”
Maguire backed Langard.
In the 95th minute, Langard’s wrong back-pass eventually led to Man Utd’s death, and Pfok announced the seal of victory for the Swiss side.
With Aaron Van Basaka out, there are already 10 men left, and Man Utd was unable to watch the game due to a Langard accident.
But Maguire says no one is blaming the midfielder for demanding more discipline from Manchester United in the remaining five matches of the group.
“Of course, discipline is a big part of tournament football,” he said. ۔
“We are lucky that this is the first game of the group and there is a lot of time to come back from it. Discipline is a big part of football.
“Like, no footballer likes to make mistakes but obviously it’s part of the game and we’re human, every footballer makes mistakes, we’ll learn from him, he’ll learn from him.
“He’ll pick himself up and get ready to go on Sunday. It’s part of football and parcel. But of course discipline is a big part.”
